Increased Employment Opportunities

At the Stephen Michael Foundation our aim is to provide programs that not only improve classroom engagement and attendance at school, but also help students and youth become future leaders in the community through employment opportunities with the Foundation. In 2023, Year 11 Collie Senior High School (CSHS) Student Amber chose to commence a school-based traineeship with the Stephen Michael Foundation (SMF). Amber chose SMF as she loved the work that the Foundation does and how inclusive we are.

After 3 years as a participant of the Rising Leaders program we are extremely pleased to announce that Amber will start a paid role providing assistance at a number of our programs run at local primary and highs schools in the community. Amber’s journey with the Stephen Michael Foundation started in 2020 and she was selected to be involved in the inaugural Rising Leaders camp because of her involvement shown during the sessions run at CSHS .The work will be based in WA’s South West including Collie, Bunbury and Busselton. Amber will work alongside other staff members at NightFields, Rising Leaders, Culture Through Sport and Nutrition programs once a week. Whilst working with the Foundation, Amber will complete a Certificate II in Sport and Rec with Royal Life Saving Australia and continue to complete her final two years of schooling at Collie Senior High School.

“It’s really exciting to announce our first school-based traineeship in the South West region. Amber has show a lot of potential during the three years she’s been involved with the Stephen Michael Foundation and our staff are looking forward to mentoring Amber to continue to develop her confidence and leadership skills” – Rory Yates, South West Regional Manager at Stephen Michael Foundation.
